Tell us which evening you want
Say what the evening is for. An anniversary dinner, a working table and a night at the cards need different rooms and run at different speeds, and knowing which one you mean saves an exchange of messages.
If the date is tight, put a second option in the notes. We would rather offer you the Thursday than lose the week.

Questions
Before you come
Is money played for in the card room?
No. It is played only with symbolic chips that have no economic value and cannot be exchanged. We take no stakes, run no cash desk, and pay out nothing in money or in kind. It is an after-dinner pastime among adults, and nothing more than that.
What are the hours?
Wednesday to Sunday, kitchen from 19:30 to 23:30. The card room opens after service on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and closes at one. Monday and Tuesday we are closed, unless the house has been taken privately.
How far ahead should I ask?
A week is usually enough for dinner, and two for a Friday or Saturday. The card room always needs a seat put aside, because there are only sixteen. Taking the whole house needs about three weeks.
Is there a dress code?
We ask for the kind of clothes you would wear to a dinner that mattered. Jacket and tie are not required, but we would rather avoid sportswear and trainers after eight.
Can you work around allergies?
Yes, with forty-eight hours notice. The kitchen runs set menus and rewriting a course takes time. The menu from the garden is always available and contains no animal produce.
What if I need to cancel?
Let us know at least forty-eight hours before a dinner, and seventy-two before the card room or a private booking. With thirty-eight covers, a table released at the last minute simply stays empty for the evening.
Do you take walk-ins?
Occasionally, early in the week, but we would not travel across the city on the chance of it. The card room never takes walk-ins.
